Paris travel guide

August 18, 2022

There is no doubt that Paris is one of the most visited cities in Europe. Paris is known as the city of love and attracts people from all around the world. I’ve been so fortunate to be able to have visited Paris for the 6th time now (2022) and each time, I discover something new.

There is no shortage of things to do and see in Paris. In this Paris travel guide, I’ll share all the information and tips you’ll need to plan your trip to this popular and romantic destination. C’est Parti!

Sacré-Cœur, Paris

…

BEST TIME TO VISIT PARIS

Paris can be visited all year around and each season has its characteristics. Spring and Autumn are my personal favourite seasons to visit, especially the Montmartre area is exceptionally beautiful when the flowers are blooming or the leaves are changing their colours.

For the highest chance of good weather, I’d suggest visiting during the month of July and August. But note that the Summer time is the most crowded and the most expensive time to visit.

Personally, I’ve never visited Paris during the winter months, but I can imagine it’s a magical timing during Christmas.

HOW TO GET THERE

Arrival by plane:

Charles de Gaulle airport is located 30 kilometres outside of Paris. From CDG you can take the train into the centre of Paris (35min). Other options are a shuttle bus or private transfer.

Arrival by train:

Arriving by train is a comfortable and easy way to reach the centre of Paris. If you’re traveling from a neighbouring country, your final station will be Gare du Nord. From there you can take the metro to your accommodation.

Arrival by car:

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can drive into Paris. I’d recommend to park your car in one of the many secured garages and leave it there for the entire duration of your stay. Note that driving into Paris can be a little crazy and traffic jams are guaranteed.

HOW TO GET AROUND IN PARIS

The Paris Métro is by far the fastest way to get around in Paris. In the beginning, the metro map & system might be a bit intimidating but once you get the hang of it, it’s super handy and definitely the most convenient way to get from point A to B. I recommend purchasing a (multiple) day pass.

Bring comfortable shoes because the second best way to get around is by foot. Paris is such a beautiful city, you want to see as much as possible and soak up all the vibes.

Other modes of transport are: bus, taxi, Rent & Go (electric step for rent).

WHERE TO STAY

If you want to make the most of your time in Paris, think about the location where you’ll be staying. An accommodation close to a metro station will come in very handy as the metro is definitely the fastest way to get around.

During my last visit, I’ve lodged in the area of Arc de Triomphe and would totally recommend this. Other great options are the Montmartre area and the 1st Arrondissement.

TOP THINGS TO DO IN PARIS

There are so many things to do in Paris: the options are endless. If you’re only visiting for a few days, time is limited. Write down some things you don’t want to miss out on and plan this into your itinerary. You won’t be able to experience everything, but hey, that’s a great reason to go back!

I gathered my top recommended things to do in Paris:
